Before we do anything, can you print and scan after you installed everything. If so, do NOT do anything. I will wait for your responce to tell you the next move. Connected with USB Cable, correct? Laptop or Desktop?
After the initial installation, the printer and scanner worked fine. After a few days, the computer couldn't communicate with the printer at all. However, I can scan FROM the scanner to the computer, and the scanned image shows in the application. For some reason, I can't control the printer or scanner from the computer.
I'm using a Dell XPS M1710 laptop, Windows Vista 32-bit, and connected via USB cable.
Install the proper drivers, you'll be prompter when to connect the printer(powered on)
Scanning
Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.
Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.
Also you can do this so the computer doesn't lose communications with the printer.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Ok, I followed the above directions exactly. During re-installation of the printer driver, I noticed Windows said that it successfully installed the driver, and that my device is ready to use.
Tried scanning from the all-in-one center, still getting the same error message. Can't scan from the all-in-one center, or from any third-party programs. It worked before. Anything else I can try?
Ok, I downloaded the OCR program, and it was able to scan. However, I still cannot scan from the 3rd party scanning program I need for work (called Tscan), nor can I scan from the Dell Imaging Toolbox. ??
I'm wondering now if it's a firewall issue. I checked the exceptions in Windows Firewall, and according to that, exceptions were given for the Dell software and Tscan. In the Dell Imaging Toolbox software, there is no option to update list of applications to send scans.
If I still can't get this to work, I'll just ditch Vista, and to heck with it. XP is better anyway.

Scott,
I think you're looking for this, correct?
