maacam,

Try this and see if it helps.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

maaxam,

This thread you say V305. Your other thread you say V305w.

How are you connecting the printer to your computer?

Maaxam,

Sorry, I see two V305 printer probems at the same time, my mistake.

Please give me the make and model of your computer and operating system and how you're trying to connect your printer to your computer.

Rick,

It's a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista.  It's connected with a USB cable.  I've also tried changing the cable in case it was defective.

maaxam,

Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

Disconnect your printer.

Un-install your printer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

64-bit Drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on). Please use a 6ft or smaller USB Cable.

Rick,

I've got my Windows Update set to "Automatic" everyday at 3AM.

When trying to do Windows Update manually, it failed to update and I receive this error message; "WindowsUpdate_80070426".

(The printer is not a wireless printer).

maaxam,

I hope you have it setup to update Windows ONLY. I have seen so many people have it update drivers and either Microsoft offers the wrong drivers and/or they get installed wrong causing many devices to fail.

Hit the Windows Key and the R keys at the same time. Type

services.msc

Hit enter.

Look at Software Licensing and make sure it's set for Automatic. Restart the servics.

Look at Windows Update and make sure it's set for automatic(Delayed start). Restart the service.

Look at Backgroung Inteligent Transfer Service and make sure it's set for automatic(delayed start). Restart the service.

Go to Microsoft Validate Windows/Office and validate Windows again and then try to get your windows updates.

After we get this working, then we'll work on the printer.

maaxam,

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware update it and do a quick scan. Remove anything it finds and if it finds anything, then go to DELL Malware Removal Forum, read the top post by bugbatter and follow the instructions. They are better preparred to get your computer back to normal. Sounds like some type of malware.

Let me know what happens.

I've looked up all that you mentioned and it was set as you described.  I've also validated Windows and tried the windows update.  I'm getting the same message.  When I checked the updates history, i've noticed that automatic updates have failed since Aug 26th.

Just in case this is related, at about the same time, my network and charing center stop displaying and gives me this message: The dependency service or group failed to start. (and there's a red x on the icon in my bottom tray).

maaxam,

Go to Dell Microsoft OS Forum make a new thread. Subject: Windows Update failed WindowsUpdate_80070426

Make sure to include the make and model of your computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit? Tell them what happened and when you noticed these problems. Also note that you ran Malwarebytes and it found nothing.

Maybe someone there has seen this before and can help you get this corrected.
