MnM N R Wise,

What happens when you close the page, then restart the computer?

Does the printer work?

William White,

That was some type of html coding.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free edition(no trial) update it and do a quick scan. Post back the log if it finds anything.

Make and mosel of your computer and opertaing system is helpful. 32-bit or 64-bit?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

First, I restarted - no change; than I re-installed the printer and - no change.

I am looking at my Users accounts, Dell Concierge, a 24/7 for out of warranty (out of date) PC's seems to have chalked up an account on my PC - but it is not visible. They fiddled with several items to increase application time. My IE 9 kept shuddering to a crash. As a matter of fact, I cannot open Task Manager in Events or Task Scheduler in cmd. Further problems indicate something going on - which may be a user account or a virus, et al - but my scans do not show anything other than a few cookies. Also, each time I tick a page on the internet, I get an Adobe Flash dialogue asking whether or not to open a web page. I recently installed a new version. At IE 9, I declined and got to the page. Also, the Concierge group may have fumbled a lot of other things - which I have yet to try Restore and that may do the trick.

The printer seems to be working as good as before. Before re-installing, it dropped OCR and has now done it again. I hope that it is not a warranty situation - only my desktop had an inform for warranty. I can also load digital from the printer. But these small things do not add up and they might be something coming.

I am not too sure how to approach that many items. What do you think?

My system is an Inspiron 530, Vista Basic OS 32-bit. I am using AVG Internet and AVG PCTuneup.

What is html coding? I will try the malware and am about to hit Dell's PS 1 tools and if that does not provide a result, then I suppose I could go for a system restore with the system disk.

The thing is that spoofing and phishing may be a party. I have an external disk that disappeared - as if someone ripped out the key. I am still looking for a solution to that one. But warranty may be it - these events have occurred right after the end of a warranty - that alerts me but to what - the big of it is not only an imposs. yet very unlikely - but a techie might be playing to the wind - please excuse my assertion, it is a bit out of range with my knowledge of computers - but the chronology does seem to coalesque at times ... wbw

William White,

If I remember correctly, some members have had problems with the usb ports on the Inspiron 530. I'm not sure if if it's driver releated or if something removed the drivers.

Make a post in the Desktop General Hardware Forum about the USB Ports not working and they should be able to he;lp you get them working again. I think you posted in another thread about your external hard drive may have failed. This may also be the issue with the usb ports.

Thanks for the memo - I will do that. But it does not appear to be USB - that is a clincher ... perhaps I am correct that it has been hacked - but the printer issue doesn't make any sense - I tick the button and a page pops up. Re-install did not change the issue. Again, thanks for the input. -wbw

William White,

There has been malware that used to print jibberish to a printer. It would keep printing until the printer ran out of paper. It was not the printer that was infected but a computer(s) that had the printers drivers.

You can download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free edition, update it and do a quick scan. Have it remove anyhting it finds.

The printer drivers and software are pretty basic. They need .net framework and Java to run properly. Drivers for the printer and scanner to work and communicate, program to allow you to print, scan, fax and also do your settings. There is an OCR Program needed to scan/fax.

If a printer can copy a document under the glass, like a copying machine, then the problem is not the printer but something on the computer(s) sending the information to the printer. Wireless printers with a wireless adapter, that have a WiFi light, the light should be green. If it's not green, then the printer is NOT communicating with the wireless router.

I have found that stuck print jobs in the queue remain, even if you uninstall/reinstall the printer, unless they're removed. Delete Print Jobs The stuck print job(s) cause printing problems.

Usually with a printer problem, removing the stuck print jobs from the queue, disconnecting the printer, then uninstalling and reinstalling the printer solves the problem. I have seen issues where the printer will not install because of a usb port issue.

I'm out of ideas on how to correct this.
