v505: Software installation failure.
Hi everyone,
I'm in a help desk position and there's a remote user who can't install the software for his v505 printer. He tried reinstalling and got the message "error building item templates. Some GUI data missing on the xml file."
I have never run across this message before and don't know what it means or how to address it short of uninstalling and trying to reinstall again. I haven't actually talked to the user yet since he didn't answer the phone when I called. This is just the info that was on the ticket but I wanted to learn as much as I could so I might know what I'm talking about when I do talk to him.
Besides the above question, is there any documentation available for toubleshooting these kinds of issues?
Thanks so much!

Hi Mr. Hansen,
Please follow the below mentioned steps to install the printer drivers.
There are a set of Services which has to be started. These are required by the printer to print the documents from the computer.

These steps will uninstall the printer drivers.
Insert the printer driver’s cd for an V505 printer and install the drivers in the computer.
If the cd is unavailable use the following steps to download the printer drivers.
Download the printer driver from the link below http://dell.to/12hggOQ
NOTE: Please do not connect the printer using the USB cable to the computer prior to installing the drivers. Please choose the right operating system from the list under operating system.

Thanks for the responding!
It is a Windows 7 machine using a USB connection. Wireless isn't supported by the company. I don't know the exact wording of the message as I haven't been able to contact the user yet.

Thanks for all the info!
The user actually solved the problem himself by buying a new printer! Sounds like the old one was starting to have mechanical problems anyway.
I am definitely going to save this information though, I have a feeling it will be useful in the future.
Thanks for helping.
