V725w Printhead Issue Looking for Solution

In May 2012 I bought a Dell V725w. I’m getting a “Printhead Not Supported” message whenever I turn it on. Fresh cartridges, cleaning the printhead, etc. used to bring the printer back to normal, but no more.

 My questions:

1. Do printheads always wear out in less than five years?

 2. Could the error message be caused by some problem other than the printhead? I bought the printer to print materials in black, thinking the colored cartridges wouldn’t be a problem because I’d never use them. I didn’t learn until later that the printer will not print without the colored cartridges (this was not mentioned in any of the marketing materials, and only obliquely in the manual). I’m wondering if printing only in black (except for the printhead alignment required every time I use the printer) has caused the problem, and if there’s some remedy other than buying a replacement printhead?

 3. The price for a new printhead for Dell’s V715w printer is $149 from a vendor on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0055TL2EO/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new , but they say they can’t be sure it’s compatible with the V725w. So far I haven’t found a vendor with a printhead compatible with the V725w—any suggestions?

 4. Rick mentioned the Lexmark 100 (part# 14N1339) several times as a replacement printhead. His guidance is always excellent and a printhead seems pretty basic, but I’m wondering about the difference in price. Can the $31.50 Lexmark printhead perform as well as the $149 Dell printhead, or is there some fundamental difference I don’t understand?

Thanks for your thoughts and ideas,

anima_in_LA,,

The printhead I liked to was for the Dell V715w Printer, NOT the Dell V725w Printer.

anima_in_LA,

Articles I have are...

Since this printer was made by Lexmark, you may find a printhead on their website or maybe ebay.

Rick,

Replied to your message above but can't tell if it will be available to you (no confirmation that it was sent to you or posted). If you don't receive a reply from me please send brief email to  and let me know. I'll try again.  Thanks, anima_in_LA

Apologies, Rick—I wasn’t clear. I thought since you suggested the Lexmark printhead for the V715w you could tell me whether there was a Lexmark printhead for the V725w. Thanks for suggesting I check Lexmark. Here are the sources I’ve found, in case others find them useful:

• Online chat with Dell. Out of stock for next 2-3 weeks. Unable to give me a price.

• Vendor “Original Supply” on Amazon offers new Dell V715w printhead (www.amazon.com/.../ref=nav_timeline_asin and new Lexmark 14N0700/14N1339/14N1492 printhead (www.amazon.com/.../ref=dp_olp_new_mbc ), each priced at $149 with free shipping. The Dell V715w printhead uses Dell Series 21, Series 22, Series 23 and Series 24 cartridges, while the V725w uses Dell series 33 cartridges. But the Lexmark printhead supports 14N1492, series 33 printhead and cartridges. So it would probably work with the V725w, but is much more than I want to spend.

• World Class Ink offers the Dell V725w printhead for $69.99 with free shipping (www.worldclassink.com/Dell-V725W-Printhead-printer26368-ift18.html ). “For use in all Dell inkjet printers that use Dell Series 31-34 cartridges” (the V725w uses series 33). Have faxed them some questions on warranty and delivery time (can’t phone due to jaw injury).

• Surplus Toner offers the Dell V525w printhead for $45.85, and say it is compatible with the V725w. They too are out of stock. “All OEM product comes with a warranty direct from the manufacturer. That warranty will vary depending on which brand you are purchasing, and we recommend that you visit the OEM website for exact specifications. We will handle all warranty issues within the first 30 days of receiving the product.” I’ve emailed them requesting notification when they have new stock, but they’re limited to whatever surplus is available from Dell.

• There’s also a vendor in China selling original Dell printheads for US$23.76 on AliExpress. There’s free shipping if you wait  20-39 days for delivery (www.aliexpress.com/.../32355751831.html. I can’t wait this long, but someone else might find it interesting.

Thanks for the articles; I’d read and used them already several times in my quest to repair rather than re-buy. Interested in your comments and suggestions on the vendors above. I’m hoping to hear back from World Class Ink today, but again am baffled by the difference in price between the Amazon vendor and World Class.

anima_in_LA,

The replacement printhead you need will have to accept Dell Series 32,33 ink cartridges. I do not have a link or part number for this.

Have you found anything yet?  High dollar amount doesn't mean high quality.

Tried World Class Ink twice.  First print head just about emptied my yellow cartridge on a clean.  Second one I just got doesn't print yellow or black.  Did a clean and just a smudge of yellow and black, once.  Another clean and two deep cleans didn't do anything.  I tried to register with Ali Express but that didn't work.  Now, I can't get in.

RMPH,

If you use the Extra High Capacity Ink Cartridges found HERE, they should last you a longer time than the single high capacity ones.
