Cannot set MS word to eliminate space between paragraphs

Hi,  Whenever I hit the return key it makes an extra space between paragraphs. If I continue typing it makes single spaces.

I want to get rid of that extra line space when I hit the return key.

Check the settings under "format" then "paragragh" and "indents and spacing"

I think I might have done this, but for what it's worth.
Spacing, before and after are "auto"
                               Line spacing is                       "single"
I thought single would have done it.
Still gives me a double space when I hit "return"
                                                               Thanks anyway

Click Start, Run then type the following (pr copy and paste it)

%userprofile%\application data\microsoft\templates

Click OK

Delete the normal file, restart Word, close Word then restart again.

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean, "delete the normal file"

I thought this would be a simple setting. What happened I have to use Start, Run?

                                                                    Thanks, Bid

Apparently, your normal style has changed. It is easier to just delete the Normal.dot template (normal file) than it is to change the normal style.

Nothing will happen to Word, as this is a safe procedure.

Hi, You have to explain things to me, like click this or click that. I don't know what you mean.
                                                                          Thanks, bid

No problem.

Close Word if open

First, click Start, then click Run. In the empty text box, type the following

%userprofile%\application data\microsoft\templates

Look for a file named Normal, right click with your mouse, the left click Delete Close all windows, start Word.

Close Word, then restart it. You should not have an extra space between paragraphs.

              Hi,
I did as instructed but am still getting the extra space when I hit the return key. Didn't think it could persist like this.
                                                                            Thanks, Bid

Could you send me a sample document? My email is

abach@absupportweb.com

I'll look at it and see what is causing the problem.

Hi, The document I opened didn't have the problem. I figured it out.
In Paragraph I had to set spacing, before and after, to 0 instead of auto.
Thanks for  helping me help myself

HI, I was able to solve the problem.

In Format Paragraph I set spacing before and after to 0  (zero)  from auto, which worked. However, it changes itself back to auto again. I had prepared a new document but it didn't have the problem

                                                         Thanks, Bid

                    Hi,
I messed around w/ settings, comparing it to another document I have. As of now, I have changed the settings and they have stayed the same.
Thanks for all your input. I appreciate it.
