Closing Microsoft Money file

Hello,
I have Microsoft Money as part of the MS suite 2002 with Windows XP. Recently I've been getting error messages saying "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Money 2002," which has only a cancel button.

The weird thing is that I have never used MS Money. This message now pops up so frequently, it severely limits any other activity on my PC (as in every 5 seconds or so). If I hit cancel, I get a message saying:

Setup needs to close MS Money 2002 and is unable to do so. Please close MS Money Express 2002 and click retry. If you're not sure how to close MS Money 2003 consult help.

Of course help offers no real help. Going to the MS Money program from the start menu shows that it doesn't seem to be opened, since it has an "open" option, and no "close" option. I've tried uninstalling MS Money but am unable to since it says I have to let the current install complete first.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Of course I tried shutting down, to no avail; the messages are still popping up.
