Ginglese,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Have you tried uninstalling the current version and then installing the newer version?

Well, it didn´t work for me.
No matter what I do, it won't upgrade from 1.2.0 to 1.2.2.

MexUser,
Did you uninstall the older version before trying to install the newer version of the software?

I have the same problem as MexUser. I am on Windows 7 Professional x64, language: Italian. I had DCSU v.1.2.1 installed on my Optiplex 980. I've tried to upgrade to 1.2.2 and I got the "Error reading setup initialization file" error. So I completely uninstalled DCSU, rebooted, tried again to install 1.2.2 and got the same error.
Considering that installing 1.2.1 had been equally hard (in the end I had to install all the versions, starting from 1.0.0 up) and that 1.2.1 was not offering the correct updates for my system, all in all I'd say that something is really, really wrong with this tool.

I was getting the same error... the answer appears NOT to uninstall/re-install (not sure why this is marked as 'solved'), but rather it seems to be a permissions issue on install that causes the "Error reading setup initialization file" error message.
The simple workaround is to extract the files, copy them to a directory off your Desktop, and then run 'DCSU_Setup_1_2_2'. That seems to have solved the issue for me. (I'm running Win7, 64-bit, Latitude E4310.)
More specifically, after running the APP_WIN_R306307, select the option to 'extract only' instead of trying to install it immediately, which will result in the error notification. Then, click 'VIew Folder' (if you're Win7, it should be similar to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Dell\drivers\APP_WIN_R306307). From there, move that APP_WIN_R306037 directory to your Desktop, and then from within the directory, double-click DCSU_Setup_1_2_2.exe, and the installation should proceed normally.
Hope this helps!

The problem is the folder the setup creates, the folder itself.
Move the extracted files to any other folder or location and it solves the installation issue.
Good point Mark.

OK, I'm confused.
First of all, I had subscribed this topic, so I got an e-mail for mark-13's and MexUser's posts, but MexUser's post was completely different than the one I see here. Has the post been modified?
Anyway, I have tried what MexUser suggests (in the version of his post which I see here), but it didn't work.
I downloaded v1.2.2 (DCSU was not installed at this point); I ran it as administrator; I chose to extract files to a location; I extracted the files on a new folder on my desktop; I opened the folder, selected the files, copied them, created a new folder on the desktop and pasted the files into this folder. Then I ran the setup as administrator and once again had the same error. :(

Update.
It seems that there are TWO, very lame problems about this installer.
One is that there's something wrong with the permissions of the folder the installer creates, as you guys pointed out.
Another one may be related to the username of the user running the installer.
I have succeeded in installing v1.2.2 by logging in as a different user (both users were local admins) with a shorter (8 chars) username, if that rings a bell.
The error I got with the other username (longer...) was that the installer was unable to create some folder under C:\Users\[SHORTED DOS VERSION OF MY LONG USERNAME]. That _really_ rings a bell.
The username who succeeded in installing the thing is just "sysadmin" ;)
But the real issue is that, even after I was able to install DCSU, it is still offering (as did the previous version) bogus updates!
It offers 4 updates, 3 of which (verified with Dell hotline) are NOT for my machine and one of which is already installed.
I'll not bother with DCSU anymore, and who knows maybe on some models it does work (I refuse to think that Dell wanted to play a practical joke on us) but I thought you'd like to know. If you have an Optiplex 980 at least, don't waste your time.
