Dell DataSafe

I'm frustrated....

I've called Dell and used their Live Chat and was promised resolution.  My logon for Dell DataSafe has never worked.  My conversation with technical support ended with them getting back to me but they never have.  I can logon to DataSafe and edit my account but I'm unable to backup my system.

I would appreciate any help you can give regarding the datasafe error - I had no problems until the upgrade to Windows 7 - now I get the error message immediately and it recurs constantly.  My email is:

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I've been very disappointed with Dell DataSafe. The difficulty is that Dell DataSafe no longer recognises my user name. I was on the phone to Dell for over an hour, but in the end they gave up! Therefore I now have 45 gb of valuable data on their server, but if my hard drive fails I will be unable to download it via another computer. This, in my opinion, makes it useless. Will not be renewing in April, and regret the money I have spent on it so far. Incidentally, in the UK this numbers is a good way to make contact with Dell: 0844 338 1600. There's also an email address: UKI_DIS_BGL_Dimension4@Dell.com - not that customer support has been much help in my case. Avoid like the plague!

I don't understand why Dell doesn't get this sorted. Forums are full of complaints like mine. Otherwise I've been very happy with my Dell laptop, but my problems with DataSafe would make me seriously consider not buying from them again. Talk about spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar!

Same here....with the Windows 7 business. I had been getting other pop-ups saying I needed  to upload some new version of DS. Many times I clicked on the update only to see the same request the next day. I never use this program. With all the displeasure on this forum I think I will try to uninstall it and be done with thing before I even start. I

I've heard great things about Carbonite.

I had the same problem at first too.  Every time I tried to restore my files, the datasafe website would time out or return an error.  I checked the help documentation and forums but couldn't find any information about how to fix the problem I was having.  I contacted Dell technical support (not order or sales support, be sure to contact technical support) via chat and they were able to fix the problem and get me on my way very quickly.  What they had me do was download the datasafe application to my computer (go to www.delldatasafe.com and, even if you already have an account don't log in, rather click on the green download button. Then once you have the datasafe application installed on your computer, log in to the application using your existing account. ) and go through the application rather than through the website to restore the files. It still takes forever (16 hrs and I didn't even have very much backed up...) to download your files back to your computer but at least it should get your files back.

Hope that helps!

Three years with datasafe and now it shows only the last eight weeks of back-up. I need my old files and documents from last year. There is NO datasafe support link, email, or phone numbers. This is unbelievable. My email changed, but they found me, so there can be no mistake that their files carry up to date information. I want my old dated/back-up info back and if you can help I would be very happy. I actually called Dell and tried to ask a question about the Datasafe and since I had not paid for Dell support after my first year I was told they could not help, or if they did I would be charged. In fact I had a serious virus after owning the computer 10 months and they charged me $99.00 plus a software program I did not need. My purchase contract (I read to them) said I had one year of service and they denied the contract. I will never purchase a Dell again. So, please help.

I want to add that since I have been backing up on my own discs, I had inserted a few older discs to find out what was on them and to see if the files may be on the discs. Well, out of over 20 discs I have 6 discs with nothing on them, a picture of a blue box with a green curved arrow. Each time I did a back-up it always said back-up successful, now I have less than what I started with. Each disc has the exact same information, nothing from last year. If they have backed up my files, where is the information and how do I access it. Don't tell me to follow their directions, as all they show my options are is from April of this year.
