Dell Remote Access - not working! Help?!?!
First, Dell customer support is a big joke. Tried to call - no help. On chat for more than an hour - no help. Someone PLEASE be smarter than Dell!!
I downloaded and paid for Dell Remote Desktop for my dad's laptop before he left the state for three months (this was last weekend). The day I downloaded the software, everything worked great. I could access his desktop no problem.
He traveled out of state, started his laptop, and I kept getting the "system inaccessible" error message when trying to connect. I had him reinstall the software, and it worked.
Then today, it happened again. He hadn't even shut down his computer, and I get the innaccessible message again. Are you kidding?! So I tried to have him install the software again - no luck. It says it's already been installed and can't be reinstalled. We tried to uninstall the software but it gets hung up on 60%.
So now what?!?! We're paying for the program we can't use - Dell is zero help. Less than zero actually.
Any ideas? I'm desperate.
Oh - we're both operating Studio laptops with Vista 32-bit.
Thanks a ton
Natalie

Hi Natalie,
Are you reinstalling from a cd or from the marketing site at www.dellremoteaccess.com? If you use the marketing site you wil get the latest release which may have addressed that issue. As for uninstalling, I've heard that it may take a little longer than usual for some reason.......it may seem as if it's haging but give it an hour before you give up on the uninstall. If all else fails, you can get decent support at support@dellremoteaccess.com.
Hope this helps!

Hi there. I was trying to reinstall from the website - didn't even know there was a CD! :-)
After the non-help I got from Dell, I spent a couple of days trying to figure it out and finally got it up and running for a couple of hours. But now again it's "disconnected" and what I can't figure out his how to CONNECT! His laptop is on - internet is up and running - but remote desktop is disconnected...and no "connect" button. I have no idea what to tell him to do. We've tried restarting the computer, uninstalling, reinstalling...SO FRUSTRATING!!!
Thanks for the reply...wasn't sure if I'm just alone in this or what!!

Hi Natalie,
This is an interesting issue. I would definitely use that support e-mail in your case as this is not the proper behavior from this program. I had an issue in the past and they were able to get me on track fairly painlessly. I wish I could be more help but this wasn't really similar to the issue I was having. I can say that it is worth the effort because I use this program often now and I'm very satisfied with it.
Good Luck!

eilatancf,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
When you were setting up the software did you set up any power saving plan? For proper operation the PC running Dell Remote Access should not enter into power savings mode as connectivity to the network is not possible in this state. Ths could be what may be happening if the computer is going into sleep or hibernate mode. If you have the system set to go into power saving mode you may want to set it to "turn off the system to never"
