Does anyone know if the Dell Solution Center (application program) works on Win 7?

This is not a major deal.....although I did like the convenience of having the program on my system.  There is no Win 7 release.  However, I wonder if the latest version of this program *released in the Spring of 2009) and built for X64 Vista would work on X64 Win 7?  Thanks for any reples.

You mean the Dell Support Center with the blue wrench icon?    Can only speculate, but here's my opinion FWIW (I have a 410 running XP, but no plans to upgrade yet):

A lot of the features are OS specific (driver updates, alerts, the "PC Checkup", etc).   If you tried the Vista version on Win7 it might choke on it  - or it might not.   But I'm not sure I would trust it to be accurate.

As for a Win7 version - Dell probably will release one at some point to be compatible with new Win7 models, but no idea if it would be compatible with older ones.    As a rule once a model is out of production Dell doesn't have an incentive to keep drivers and apps up-to-date, and generally won't add support for a new OS, either.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the program anyway.   Doesn't do anything for me I can't do with much smaller free utilities and a couple bookmarks - and any program that defaults to a full-time running background process really gets on my nerves.   But to each his own.

Yes, the Dell Support Center with the blue wrench icon.  However, you make a point in saying that Win 7 might choke on it.  It's certainly not a program that I have to have and certainly wouldn't rely on it for updates to my system.  I just kind of liked the convenience of a single shortcut that instantly showed me everything about my system without having to create bookmarks, etc.  Again, not a big deal though.

You are also right in saying that dell has no incentive to release any updates for drivers and apps once a model goes out of production.  I noticed that long ago.  For my system, they continue to post out of date drivers for my sound card, etc, that I certainly would not rely on.  This was the case even under Vista before I upgraded to Win 7 on my own.  The last BIOS update for my system was December 2007 (something more important); however, even in areas like that......I am sure Dell has little interest in keeping the support page updated.

It's just the way it goes.  Anyhow, thanks for the reply.
