error message: windows installer error 1606

On my new dimension 4700 when I open an existing word file I get this error message-windows installer error #1606 - by clicking on in numberous times it goes away and I can proceed. However this slows me down, plus I would like to know what this is all about. It is about macors, unsigned macros,   etc.  don't understand.  I had used aloha bob to move files from my old computer.

Error 1606 is usually an indication a network drive cannot be found. What does aloha bob do???

Click << here >> and download and install the trial version of RegVac. Run it in Novice Mode to remove invalid registry entries. This should fix the problem.

Regvac novice downloaded and installed - report has 17 pages of registry items that have been removed.    message still appears when opening word docs.  Have not shut down and restarted computer.

You must restart your pc for the registry to reload.

I am encountering this problem with mso powerpoint 2003 on a new Dimension 3000. MSO 2003, Win XP were factory loaded. Aloah Bob was purchased from Dell and used to transfer files from old system. I have run reg vac and rebooted to no avail. Also have spent many hours on the phone with Dell support. Their only solution was to wipe the drive and start over. Any ideas?

Thanks

I am sorry there seems to be no easy fix.  I am clueless as to why this is happening.  Reg Vac also did not help me.  I get the feeling that the "problem" lies in my transfering old files and programs into the new computer.

I agree. It appears that the migration created this mess. Since there is no efficient fix Ibacked up all of my files, wiped the system clean and returned it to the original factory settings and reloaded. I did not use Aloha Bob this time. I loaded my old programs from the original disks and loaded the program files. Everything now works fine.
