Error when running DMX (No PowerDVD!!)

Question

Chris,   Just a quick thanks for sending me the CDs, I have installed the DMX but got an error because PowerDVD is not installed.   It is not available in Dell download nor in any of three CDs that I received today, I had two different copies of this program in my own software collection but neither of them is recognized by DMX for it to support remote control function...  it has become a little frustrated that I can't get the software that I paid for ....   Please advide how to obtain the correct version of PowerDVD program that works with DMX, thanks. Message Edited by anguschen on 07-16-2005 02:51 AM

I have this problem, but I do have PowerDVD, I have PowerDVD 6.  So how do I get DMX to recognize it and use it to play DVDs?   Thanks,   David

dboniuk, We only install 5.5. I have no idea how DMX will act with the retail 6.

I can tell you how it reacts, it reacts as if it is not there. The question is, can something be modified in a configuration file that will allow DMX to recognize PowereDVD 6. Thanks   David

dboniuk, I doubt our engineers will modify the configuration file for a non-Dell version. But, I will send the request.

Actually, if you can just point me to the proper config file, I can probably modify it myself.

Failing any config, ini, inf, etc. mods, can you please help me get the PowerDVD 5.5 version. I have looked at all of the CDs that came with by iXPS Gen2, but I don't see it.

Whenever I try to play DVD with Dell Media Experience I get an error message with pcm2.exe. Is this problem the same problem discussed this thread -- having to do with not having the correct version of PowerDVD (the version I have installed is 5.0)?

I have to say a public WOW and thanks to Chris who responded quickly and helped me via e-mail on Saturday to get what I needed.   Also, I have discovered that if you uninstall DMX, install PowerDVD 6 and then reinstall DMX it will call PowerDVD 6 instead of using 5.5.     David

Hi, I have not been able to get help by calling technical support, (waited for 40 min and was still on hold without speaking to any real person) I am having similar problems, I had startup error, missing hal.dll file, and could not use the dell restore utility, and spent 1 hour on phone with dell rep last week to have the OS install cd sent to me, with 2 more driver / dell app cd's which was for older system, dimension 4600 instead of my current dimension 5100. i downloaded all the device drivers from dell website after reinstalling the operating system, everything is up and running, except that i could not get any DVD player. My order spec says that I am suppose to have Power DVD software for dvd drives for my system. Is it possible to have a Power DVD software CD sent to me? I did a search for "PowerDVD" in dell support forum, and saw that other people have been able to get help here. With the new dell automated phone system, I am not sure which category my problem belongs to, I really miss the old days where all OS/ driver / application program CD's are all included in the box... you can rely on a clean new install by yourself as a last resort...

I just got my Inspiron today. First thing I did was wipe the HD and install XP Pro. But I don't have the OS/driver/software CDs. In particular, I'd like to be able to install the PowerDVD software which came with my computer, but couldn't find a link on the support webpage. Can someone point me in the right direction?
