Excel 2003 run-time error 53

I have a new Dimesion 8400 with Windows XP Pro and Office 2003 Pro.

When I start up Excel I get a Microsoft Visual Basic message saying

"Run-time error 53   File not found: mcMan"

If I clear the message all is well, but it appears every time, whether or not a file is loaded in Excel -- and it's annoying!

I have unistalled and re-installed the Office suite, but no success.

Any ideas please?

Check to see if an add-in is trying to load. Tools, Add-ins. Look for any check marks for something unusual.

Many thanks for your suggestion, Allan. I won't be able to get to my machine until the middle of next week but, thinking ahead, how would I check to see if an add-in is trying to load while the error message is on screen? And if I first dismiss the error message wouldn't the "attempt to load" have then disappeared?

Just dismiss the message, then check the Tools, Add-Ins menu to look for something suspicious.

I have been having a similar problem for sometime.  I found this thread and tried the suggested approach of lookng at my add-ins list.  I had none in the list but did notice that I had a MiniCalc Add-in in the tool bar.  I tried to figure out how to delete/uninstall mini calc because I don't use it anymore but was unsuccesful.  So I upgraded to the newwst version of MiniCalc ( v6.9) and the error message no longer comes up.

good luck

Many thanks for the suggestion.  I don't have Minicalc installed and I can't find any similar program or add-in causing the problem.  But it's only a minor one, so I'll just grin and bear it!

Thanks again
