When you are in Excel, click on the "open" folder and change the "file type" to say "all files".  Then, you'll be able to see the file you are looking for, probably with a ".xlr or .wks" extension.  Just open the file as usual, and Excel will convert it for you.  If you save it in Excel, it will prompt you about whether you want to save it as an Excel document or not.

I think I have everything correct here.  I have Works at home and Excel at work so I can't double check the steps, but I'm pretty certain.

Excel will open Works 2 files. I don't have Works, but you could cherck to see if your version of Works has the option to save as Works 2 (save as, look through the file type drop down box). An alternative might be to go via Lotus 123 format

may also help if you have Works 3 or 4..

I also found this site offering converters. I have no experience with it, but you could try the trial version

Thanks, but this did not work.  When I followed the steps you provided, I received the following error message within Excel - This file is not in a recognizable format.... Any suggestions?
