Firewall software/MS Outlook 2 Separate Problems

This is on my new Dell Dimension 8300 which I love.

1.  I just got Road Runner and installed their recommended virus/firewall EZ Trust Firewall and Anti-Virus.  The only way I can get around on the Internet quickly (hey, the reason I got Road Runner) is to turn the cookie control and ad blocking off.  Before I was using McAfee with AOL dial-up and the firewall didn't interfere with everything I did--of course it was slow to start with.  But this won't even load some pages unless these are turned off.  Does that mean the firewall and anti-virus is ineffective.  What choice am I going to have here?

2.  Smart me installed my old MS Office 97 because it's what I'm used to.  I didn't want to pay for the updated version--don't really need it.  Did not pay attention to the fact that Office 97 has Outlook on it so wrote over the new version.  I had set up my Road Runner e-mail account on the new Outlook and now it's poof!  Just need to know where the new Outlook is to re-install and how to do it.  Looked through all the CD's.  It can't be on MS Windows XP Media Center Operating System can it?  I don't want to mess with that anyway.  Otherwise I don't see anything that looks like it.  Did I not get a CD for Outlook?  I'm sure the old version will work, I just want the new one.  Do I download from the Internet and will they let me free?

1. You should be able to set permissions in the firewall software. It's a pain and a learning process, but it will work. Try setting the controls to a lower setting instead of turning it off completely. But sometimes that's the only thing that works. Check out Computer Associates web site for help and the help files in the firewall.

2. If you had RR set up in Outlook Express, it is still there since OE is no relation to Office's Outlook despite the similar names. Just make sure you select OE as the default email program. I recommend that you don't use Outlook 97-- it's way too buggy. Upgrade to Office 2003--it's definitely worth it. Outlook Express is part of Windows so there's no separate disk.

Thanks so much.  You were right.  I'm back on track with mail.  I still have work to do on the firewall.
