Help! MIcrosft Excel has stopped working!

I have Microsoft Office Professional with Front Page installed on my computer. I think it is 2003. It came bundled with my Dell laptop, an Inspiron 6400. I am using Windows XP. I have been using all the features of Office with no problem. All of a sudden, I cannot use Excel. When I try to use it, the windows installer comes up and it is trying to configure it. It then says it cannot because the feature I am trying to us is on a CD-ROM.... and insert the CD. I cannot do that since this is bundled software...I don't have a CD. then error 1706 comes up. The rest of Office works fine...Word, Powerpoint, Access, etc. Is there any solution to this problem, short of buying Office and installing the whole thing all over again? thanks in advance. Barbara

Excel is very crucial file and a small mistake start displaying “Microsoft Excel has stopped working” error message. Commonly this is faced by the user when the workbook contains lots of data or complex calculation then excel file starts crashing. To fix it try opening Excel in safe mode.

Follow the steps to do so:

  • Press Windows+ R to open the command prompt or open from the Run option in the Start Menu.
  • Then in the command prompt type exe /safe to open the MS Excel in the safe mode.
  • After that press, the Ctrl button > open Excel file is another option to use the safe mode.

Now check the error is solved or not.
