How do I re-enable Current System Configuration tool?

We were troubleshooting a DELL LATITUDE with another PC (a DELL Dimension) and found the online tool that tells you the Current System Configuration. We turned it off because we didn't want to scan the wrong PC while logged into the LATITUDE information.

How can we turn the Current System Configuration scanning tool back on?
or...
How can we TURN ON the Current System Configuration scanning tool after it's been disabled?

I've contacted Site Feedback, and I'll post any solutions.

On the System Information webpage I cannot find anywhere how to reenable the " Service Tag Finder" so the "Current System Configuration" can be viewed (I've marked it below as HERE ).

Both of my systems are registered. (yes, I choose the correct service tag. I saw the results of the other 2 tabs.)

Let me add " Mention special key code: 1WEB1 " and let's see if this pertains to my question.

View the system, service contract and warranty information for a particular service tag.

HERE You have chosen to not have Service Tag Finder examine your computer. [How do I reverse this?]

Current System Configuration may not work for your system if ActiveX controllers are disabled or you have previously agreed to NOT have system profiler installed. If you attempt to use FireFox, you get the message "The current configuration tool is currently not available for your operating system/browser combination." Sticking to Internet Explorer (for me, it is WXP, v.6), you would click on the Current System Configuration tab, then click on one of the links shown (for example, click on General Information or click on Processor) so that it triggers the popup that says hit F5. This is a function key on the top row of your keyboard. So hit that F5. If your IE settings are like mine, and don't allow ActiveX is auto run, you should see a small bar appear on the top portion of your IE, under your address bar or near to your navigation bar, asking you to install SysPro.CAB. You have to click it and agree to the install. Then, once it is installed, go back to the screen with the Current System Configuration tab opened, and hit F5. It should start scanning your computer....

Did anyone ever find the solution to this problem?  I'm having similar problems and Active X controls are enabled in my security.  Somehow I think this is a problem on Dell's side.  I may have accidently disabled the Service Tag Finder, but there appears to be no administrative way to turn it back on.  I have spoken to several Dell Support Technicians and they can not come up with the solution.

Thanks pd2

How do I configure a W2K3 server to allow this tool to work?

Well, I tried the F5 and nothing pops up. F5 and  clicking the refresh button are the same and there seems to be no way to re-enable the service tag finder.

Anyone has any solutions?

Anybody from Dell knows how to fix this?

Finally, it works. But it's disappointing after going through these steps to re-enable the 'Current System Configuration' to 'View the system information for a particular service tag.' I really thought Dell would be more descriptive. -- I want to know the RAM TYPE so I can expand -- Whoopie! I could've gotten basic info at a system scanner like PcPitstop.com! Anyway...

Internet Options > Security [tab] > Custom Level... > turn on ActiveX components.

I'm just not sure which settings did it. I went back and forth a few times, got frustrated and turned it ALL on, and got 'the tool' to run, Then went back in and RESET my security options at Medium-High, then changed a few back to my tweaked settings.

My old newbie trick: One could take screen shots of your settings (open/save in paint) > change settings > reset or change settings using the screen shots.

Here is my MEMORY information Dell identifies:

Available Memory18.00 % - Page File Size371.64 - MbAvailable Page File75.71 % - Virtual Memory499.10Mb - Available Virtual Memory59.08 % - Memory Slot 1 [DIMM_A] 64Mb - Memory Slot 2 [DIMM_B] 64Mb

Now get this... THIS is my Latitude CPi A400XT running WinServer 2003. Yes, I know it's sad. Talk about lag... lolol Btw, it's not as a server, just the OS

Also, my reply is ON if anyone can help me find affordable RAM for my PC. And, thanks... ahead of time! ~ Bec

In my case, it used to work and then stopped - probably because I had to replace the hard drive and reinstall everything.

This worked for me - Internet Explorer - WXP v6.0 -

Tools>Manage Add-ons - Show: Add-ons currently loaded on Internet Explorer - scroll down to SysProWmi Class (mine said enabled) - click on it - below in Settings, click Enabled - then in Update, click Update ActiveX.

I was asked if I wanted to install it.  After the install, I was informed that there were no updates.

It's now working correctly.

Hope this helps

Well, until now, I still can't re-enable the tool, even when I enabled all the active X.

dbcconsult's solution worked for me.  I tried r2g's first, but his alone didn't do the trick.

One clarification.  I'd left all my activeX options "Enabled" (as r2g recommended) when I treid dbcconsult's solution.

I did contact support at dell via email and this is the contents of the reply I received.  I tried it and it did resolve the problem for me.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options. On the General Tab, under the Temporary Internet Files section, click the "Settings" button. Next, click the "View Objects" button. This should render a window titled "Downloaded Program Files". Look for an item titled "SysProWmi Class", delete it, then close all browsers. Finally, reconnect and try System Profiler again

So, I think I figured it out.  I previously reinstalled my OS losing all Dell's Support software, so have not been able to use the tool.

Do a search for System Profiler.  You will need check the "Search Hidden files and folders" box in the search parameters.

It should bring up at least two folders.  Delete both of them, restart your computer and try again.

It seems these two folders contain the software Dell needs to search your computer.  When they are missing Dell has to reinstall them.

This was the only thing I found to work!  I tried all Dell's suggestions and all the ActiveX enabling suggestions. None worked but this.
