I was not even going to install the Office 2006 bundle that came with my PC from DEll ,and sure enough now I know why .Everytime I open the task launcher it will give me error mesaage that it has run into unexpected problem and must close ,even when I open each app serperatly ,recieve same error mesaage .I installed all the Microsoft Works updates via Microsoft Update web site and stilll very buggy always giving me prob half way thru using the programs .Microsoft wont give you any support becasue its a OEM package refer you to manufactuer of PC ,who does not give free support for software problems .I should have stayed with my first thought ,not to even use this buggy bundle of junk to take up space on my hard drive ,however B/4 I throw my hands up and uninstall the entire bundle ,if anyone has some suggestions on how I can get this software to run correctly ,Iam willing to try ! For X-Mas I was given a 500G.B. Westen Digitial E-Book externial H.D. so H.D. space on my internial 250G.B. hard drive is no longer a concern !

Have you tried simply Uninstalling and then Reinstalling the software? Many times this fixes multiple problems.

There is no such program as Office 2006. You need to post the exact "bundle" you have--MS Works, MS Office 2003 or 2007--which was optional for an extra $150 or more. The software that came with the computer was installed at the factory and you did not need to reinstall it.

Mary G,
"The software that came with the computer was installed at the factory and you did not need to reinstall it"

Is that one of your "facts" Mary? I've often had software with which there were problems, and a simple uninstall and reinstall corrected the problem. Can you please tell me why this will absolutely not work??? I'm not really expecting a response, but perhaps you will surprise me !

I don't usually jump in when a VIP member is helping another but in this case it is justified.  Rebel9, if you would have read the initial post, the OP mentioned that, and I quote, "I was not even going to install the Office 2006 bundle that came with my PC from DEll ,and sure enough now I know why."

Mary G was responding to the OP saying that the software that comes on the computer is already preinstalled and didn't need to be installed.  She was not responding to your post.

You owe her an apology !

Bay Wolf,

Yes, I admit that my response to Mary G was harsh. I did read the OP's post, and I do realize that there is no such thing as Office 2006 and I do realize that the user does not have to "install" preinstalled apps. Regardless of the OP's mistake, confusion or misstatement, there is a problem and I offered a "possible" solution. You and I both know that an uninstall and reinstall can often (but not always) solve a problem.

Six hours after my post, Mary posted her response, which in fact was nothing more than highlighting (and in my opinion ridiculing) the OP's confusion. Mary offered no possible solution, no help and no advice - just a remark that "The software that came with the computer was installed at the factory and you did not need to reinstall it". I'm not sure that the OP found that "solution" very helpful.

I also realize that this response was to the OP - not to me. If in your opinion, this is a case of "a VIP member  helping another" and if you think that I owe an apology to Mary, then your definition of " helping" is certainly different than mine.

I have repeatedly (and I emphasize repeatedly) challenged unhelpful and totally inaccurate posts. On only ONE occasion, I received a reply admitting that the response was in error. I have repeatedly asked for clarification or an explanation for erroneous answers, but NO responses.

In my opinion Bay Wolf, a "VIP" designation also carries with it a little responsibility. Thousands of posts could also qualify me as a "VIP", but if my posts are meaningless, unhelpful, simply promoting my own opinion, or stating inaccurate "facts", then "VIP" doesn't mean very much.

However, you are correct that I owe Mary an apology for my third post is this thread. It was sarcastic, nasty and not appropriate.

Mary G, please consider this an apology.

I apologize to the original poster for hijacking this thread.

To Rebel9, I believe that your apology is sincere and will be well received.

I too will challenge someone's post if I believe the information given is inaccurate or misleading and I am in no way asking you to stop doing the same.  I guess I was reacting to your third post.

You seem to have a knack with the written word and I urge you to continue work here.

Iam the originial poster of this thread and Iam holding the box that contains the five CD's for installing Microsoft Works Suite 2006! So I apoligize for not listing the name of the bundle exactly as it appears, it contains Microsoft Word ,Word Processing , Travel Planner,Microsoft Money 2006, Works8, Digitial Image 2006, Encarta2006, Streets and Trips 2006 ! Now are you still going to claim that this product that I do not remember paying for as a option ,becasue I would not use most of these apps except for the Streets and Trips for directions and Word for documents ! So if anyone has this Suite(bundle ) of OEM software apps ,I would appreciate their exprience with using it ! Also for a product that does not exsist ,I was able to download several updates thru the Microsoft Update site ?
     Thanks Nick

Bay Wolf,
Thanks for your response. I'll also try not to be quite so abrasive in the future. Happy New Year.

Nick,
Did you try my original suggestion (uninstall and then reinstall)?  I've had something as simple as this correct problems many times. No guarantee that this will work in your case, but it's worth a try.
