You can also check whether you have one or more of the service packs installed (any office program, help menu, about, read what it says in the top line e.g. mine says Word 2002 (10.6612.6735) SP3).

Most likely you are not logged on to your PC as an administrator. Does your user account have administrator priviledges?

You need to install Office 2000 SR1 patch and do all the windows updates before you can go to the office update site.

No. For Office XP, to download updates, addins, etc to hard drive and install from there, start here
