Streets and Trips is NOT part of Microsoft Office. Your question should be posted on the "Other Software" section of the forum. Microsoft Office applications are MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
However, I've tried to set defaults for my Streets and Trips and it won't "permanently" change.
Gee. Thanks. I looked and looked for the right place to post my question. I guess it doesn't matter. I can't believe you can't change the options but once. What a dorky program. I guess I just use Yahoo Maps.
Do you have the entire program loaded onto your hard drive? If not, you have to place the CD in the CD-ROM drive to access the files. Try reinstalling, choose Complete and then try changing the options. It may work.
I have Streets & Trips 2004. Two CDs. One CD is Setup and one CD is Run. You can do the setup and then run the program from the other CD or you can load both onto your computer if you have the space. This is what I have done.
I tried re-installing the program, but it changed nothing. It still showed the options I had put in when I first installed the program.
I've sent a question to Microsoft Support about this.
Right now, for every trip, I have to change all of the options. There must be a way to change the "default" options so you don't have to input all of those values for every trip.
Find out in which folder your Streets &Trips templates are stored. They're .stt files. (Look for *.stt in Start, Search.)
Open Streets &Trips. Go to Route Planner. Change the options and click OK. Choose File,. Save As and name your new template (something like Semana) and save it in the templates folder. When you open S&T and click on File> New, your template should be one of the choices.
Sorry, I should have made this more clear. You search for the stt file just to verify the folder where the templates are stored. You change the route items in Streets & Trips. While in Streets & Trips, you can save the new template in the folder where Streets & Trips stores the templates. This allows you to change settings, then, when opening Streets and Trips, you can choose File, New, and you'll see the template you created.
In Explorer, Tools, folder options, view tab, uncheck the box hide file extensions for known file types. See if North American Map now shows the extension.
You're correct! Not hopeless. That is the folder where the Streets & Trips holds the templates. Just make a note of the folder to make certain you save your own in this location. If you're on Windows XP, it is C:\Documents and Settings\ \Application Data\Microsoft\Templates or it is under a main folder called Streets & Trips.

Allan, the entire program does not load on the hard drive. Just minimum software and route updates from Microsoft. It needs the CD to run the program.
Streets and Trips is a separate CD, even with the MSWorks Suite of programs, the Streets and Trips is a separate CD.

Try this:
Find out in which folder your Streets &Trips templates are stored. They're .stt files. (Look for
*.stt in Start, Search.)
Open Streets &Trips. Go to Route Planner. Change the options and click OK. Choose File,. Save As and name your new template (something like Semana) and save it in the templates folder. When you open S&T and click on
File> New, your template should be one of the choices.

Thanks, but when I do the search as you suggest all I find is one file - "New North American Map."
When I use Explorer to navigate to the Streets & Trips file, there is a templates folder, but all that's in there is "New North American Map."
There are some other files, but nothing like "Route Planner"

I guess I'm hopeless. When I search *.stt all I find is a North American map. No templates. No other files or folders.
