Microsoft Update KB914796 Won't Install

Question

When I try to install Microsoft Update KB914796, I get this message: "The following updates were not installed: Security Update for Office XP (KB914796)"

This is on a Dell Dimension 4700 with Windows XP Pro SP2. No honts are given as to the cause of the problem and I'm at a loss to know how to resolve it. Any suggestions?

Office XP is not part of Windows XP. Do you actually have MS Office XP installed? If not, you do not need this update.

Yes! I have Office XP installed. I keep getting reminders that the update isn't installed but the attempted update fails.
