Microsoft Word 2002 Instalation problem

I needed to reinstall Microsoft Word 2002 and did so. I followed all the instructions and unintalled it correctly then reinstalled it. After completing the installation I opened MS word and i'm prompted to fill out a message box including my product key. I did that and them i'm prompted with an activation wizard message box. The problem is I can't activate my application at all because I cannot view any of the fields in the box. Everything is the same base color with a few buttons at the bottom.

The error message that popped up was an Internet Explorer Script Error. It asked me to continue running scripts and because i've had to close it a number of times the error box no longer shows up anymore. It may show up for a brief second then it will dissapear...

Bigguy,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Is this Word for Office or Works?
What is the complete error message you get, word for word?

Bigguy,

You may want to try and reinstall Word again.
Remove it from Add\Remove programs in control panel.
Then reboot the system.
Put in your Works CD#1 and choose customer install.
Then choose to reinstall Word.
Once it is done, reboot the system again.

An error has occured in the script on this page

Line: 58
Char: 3
Error: Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus.

that's what i'm getting in the activation wizard after going through punching in the product key..

Bigguy,

Here is the information from that page.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't Move Focus To The Control in WebHelp
Article #: 95432
Found in: RoboHelp HTML versions 9.X, 2002 (for Classic)
Last updated: December 30, 2002
Problem:
Error message displayed with IE 6 when running WebHelp.

Error: Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type

that does not accept a focus.

Code:0

Solution:
This problem occurs when IE 6 is installed on certain systems.

There are lines of code in the webhelp4.js file that should be edited.

1. Find the webhelp4.js file

The default location for the webhelp4.js file that is copied into your WebHelp folder each time you generate WebHelp is:

C:\Program Files\RoboHELP Office\RoboHTML\WebHelpExt

Note: You can also fix the webhelp4.js file in your individual WebHelp folder for a specific project.

2. Open the webhelp4.js file in Notepad. Refer to Article #11459 "Editing files in Notepad" for more information on this.

3. To fix the problem, just change the following line in the function of the webhelp4.js file.

tempColl(0).focus();

Comment out the line so that it looks line this:

// tempcoll(0).focus();

Or change the line so that it looks like this:

try { tempColl(0).focus(); } catch (e) {}

Note: This coding ( tempColl(0).focus();) may appear on line 1089 of the file webhelp4.js. The same coding may appear at another location in the file. Comment out or replace all instances of this coding as well.

The only problem is I don't have that folder or that file anywhere on my computer at all. I've never downloaded anything off of that robohelp site. If it's a problem with IE, would an update and reinstall of IE work because that file can't be the problem as it is not on my computer... :(

Bigguy,

Yes, if the problem is with I.E then a reinstall of it may fix the probem.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer.

Method 1:
Use System File Checker.
1.) Put your WindowsXP reinstall CD in the system.
2.) Click Start, Run.
3.) Type in ( SFC /Scannow )
4.) Click OK, and the system will start checking the system files.
5.) If any errors are found the system will prompt you to replace these files.

Method 2:
Edit the registry to allow the installation of I.E
1.Download the latest installer package for I.E
2.Click Start, Run.
3.Type in REGEDIT and click OK.
4.Find the following Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
5.Right-click the IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value, and then click Modify.
6.Change the "Value Data" setting from 0 to 1, and click OK.
7.Quit Registry Editor, and then download and install Internet Explorer 6.

Internet Explorer has been added to the Add/Remove Windows Components section of the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. This does not reinstall Internet Explorer.
For information about how o download and install Internet Explorer 6, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp

i figured out my problem with it... it actually was a setting i had selected in IE... i had created a user style sheet to format web pages on the message boards that i used to visit so that i could remove the advertisment... after unchecking the box that allowed me to use that style sheet the activation wizard worked properly for me...
