Microsoft Works 8 has stopped working...

Then is states that Windows is checking for a solution to the the problem...then it states that...a problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the progam and notify you if a solution is available

This is the message I get when I try to retreive certain, not all spreadsheets that I moved from my old computer (Dell) to my new one and  you try to do a new spreadsheet.  I also get this message when I try to print, do a page setup, number format...certain functions will not work and others will!

Word and Money both work great, just the spreadsheet and database are the problems

Contacted Dell support and they unistalled Works Suite 2006 and reinstalled.  Still no change.  Was told to contact Microsoft for the free basic help and that was a bust!  They still wanted to charge me!  I have had this new computer for 3 weeks and getting frustrated fast!

Has anyone else had this problem??

Thanks for any help you can send my way!

I have exactly the same problem with my brand new Desktop XPS 410.  Only this problem occurs with new Works files as well as old ones I transferred over from my old PC. I have only had my pc a week now and have not added any other software, so I know I have not caused this.  I only just noticed the problem today, and was hoping to find help here on the forum rather than go through a tech support on the phone.  Have you found any solution? Can anyone offer help?  This is SO frustrating...a brand new PC with new software!

Works is doing the same thing to me, too. Both the spreadsheet and word processor. It happens after I try to use any of the tool bar functions. I have a new XPS 410 with Vista.

I am also having a problem with Internet Explorer stopping - I get the same message.

I always click to have it check for the problem online, but usually it just brings up either the Works homepage or my internet homepage. Once it said that the IE problem was due to Adobe Reader and said I needed to update it, which I did (and it hasn't helped). Another IE problem was an APPCRASH/iexplore.exe. application.  The fault module name was AcroPDF.dll, version 7.0.8.0. The one time that I received a response from the Works' problem it also listed the problem as APPCRASH.

I have searched all over the Microsoft and Adobe websites and can't find any reference to this problem with Vista or with Works 8 or 8.5.  It is basically making this computer useless to me.

For all of you who read this and think that everyone who buys a computer should know all about how to fix these problems, I would remind you that you don't have to know how to fix a car's engine in order to drive it.

I have very bad news.  After intensive investigation, I have been told by numerous partys (including Dell Tech Support) that Vista is NOT compatible with Works 2006 Suite, which was intalled on this new PC of mine a week ago by Dell.  Works 2007 is compatible and is the suite that should have been installed. Despite this, initially, when I spoke to Dell Tech Support, I was told that Dell does not support software problems!!  ...despite the fact they configured these two together and sold them as my only option when I purchased (2007 was not available as an option when I purchased my PC online).  Utterly stunning to me that Dell does not stand by what they research, configure, and sell.  Fortunately for me, I have only had the PC one week and am returning it for refund.  Good luck to you who are going to continue to be burdened with this.  I hope Dell will do the right thing and help you.

WOW!  If only I had known this information BEFORE I bought my NEW DELL computer....I would have bought one well before Vista was launched or another brand!!!  I have learned my lesson.  I went with Dell, as I had previously had a Dell for 6 years and was a very satisified customer. It's very frustrating to spend this much money and not be able to get the correct support you need.

Apparently the version of Works makes a difference? Or is the problem occurring with all versions on computers running Vista? I have Works 8.5, the latest upgrade.

I have read on a Microsoft TechNet Forum that people are having problems with other programs such as Office 2007, Outlook 2007, Internet Explorer, as well as Works. Their assessment is that the problem is an Adobe-Vista incompatibility. Adobe has so far not come out with a fix.

You said that MS Works 8 has stopped working. Why then did Dell uninstall and reinstall Works Suite 2006.

By the way, according to the Works' End User License Aggreement, "Support for the software is not provided by MS... "  "For software support, please refer to Manufacturer's support number provided in the documentation for the computer."  That means that Dell is responsible for helping with this problem.

Not only is Works 8.5 not working correctly, I have other software gliches that are about to drive me to drink or return my system to good old Dell.

1.  Microsoft Works 8.5 not working correctly
2.  Roxio not working correctly
3.  Screen Saver not working - Dell blaming it on my Microsoft Wireless Mouse
4.  Dell Support Indicator missing.

I was on the phone with tech support for almost 2 hours yesterday and nothing has been solved.  Dell was suppose to call me back today and yes, you guessed it......haven't heard a word from them.  Tech also very hard to understand and it's so frustrating.

No thank you on buying Dell stock right now.

Here is a link to a listing of software that has been certified by Microsoft to work with Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933305

None of the software that Dell configured with Vista on my new PC had any of these titles.

Works 8.5 under Vista on Inspiron E1505.

I have had the same problem (three times) with the "stopped working" message with a new spreadsheet - while attempting to change cell number format.  First time it was solved by doing the Dell reformat and restore procedure recommended by the Dell tech - causing loss of about a day's worth of work configuring and installing stuff.  Second and Third occurrence of these issues fixed by using Windows restore points - kept all my files intact, only had to re-install apps which were already loaded on system.  Still not sure what's going on, and I've had other glitches - Sidebar Gadgets disappearing and/or refusing to load, slow response on some website loads, and disappearing features in Google Earth (The one app not already pre-loaded, that I put on the system).  All this on a brand spanking new laptop I've had less than a week.

I still don't know what's causing these issues, but the Windows restore and re-installing anything that gets removed from the registry seems to (temporarily) fix things.  And of course, Dell support is no help.

Anyone here with any suggestions?  I'm just about to lose it over these "quirks".  Thanks.
