Missing CD or Recovery Partition?

I have a friend who was given a Dell Dimension XPS T500. The previous owner did not provide her with any cds or manuals. Were there install CDs or does the system have a recovery partition? I'm trying to help her troubleshoot long-distance so I'm looking for any info on system recovery for this model. Thanks!

avarweth,

If the original customer ever formatted the hard disk drive, the zztop restore application is gone. You can make the zztop diskette here :

Reboot to the disk. If the image is intact, it could work.

Thank you - we'll give this a try.

Worst-case scenario - if the recovery partition is gone: can she contact Dell and get a set of CDs to restore her system? Or will she just have to purchase new software at this point?

avarweth,

Only if the system still has a valid warranty. What is the service tag number?
