MS Office ? Install on Vista?

I have a retail copy of MS Office. It was originally purchased for my Xp machine but thinking about getting a new Dell with Vista. Can I use my retail copy to put on the Vista machine? Will it work on Vista? Thanks

I have Office 2003 installed on my Visa machine.  Everything works.  You failed to note what version of Office you have, but Office 2003 is the oldest version that is listed in this Microsoft "Works With Vista" listing.  Click Me

Sounds like I may be OK. I think mine is the MS Office XP Pro edition. I guess I can always order the machine and in the worse case scenario, buy a copy that will go on Vista. I have also thought about buying a machine with XP but they have a really good deal right now on the Dell Inspiron 531 with a 19 inch monitor for 399.00. Don't think I could beat that one anywhere. Just a little leary of the Vista being compatable with some of my software I already have.

Office XP will work fine on Vista, but be aware that if you use Outlook, it will NOT retain the UserID and Password. You will have to re-enter them each time you launch Outlook. See this article.

Hi all,

I was just reading someone has Office 97 working under Vista. I would be interested in finding out what they are doing I am not, as my copy does not appear to work.

I do love the graphics of Vista on my Dell but I think some things are better on my old computer with Windows 98se. I have a 'Password Problem' listed under Vista which is not letting me get on with my New computer as I wish. So far I have not had anyone look at the problem, it looks like I should have said 'URGENT Password Problem'.  Any Suggestions People?

Well, it is me that is running Office 97 on Vista. I did nothing except install it and it works just like always. I am running Vista Ultimate 32-bit but that shouldn't matter.

What is your exact problem with the password and logging on? You able to logon at all?

Many Thanks for your reply. I think it was me not thinking straight.....as usual.

My Password Problems stems from the fact I do not want passwords on my computer, I assumed I could just hit return and not bother with that option. The first time using vista I think it sets the first setup as the admin user. It probably does not matter to the average person. but I wanted separate inboxes for a number of E-mail addresses. I could have separate indentities under Windows 98 but under Vista I have to setup separate users. When setting up the extra users I was asked for a password, I think I should have created one, but I hit return, I was allowed to setup the users but now when I switch on I cannot get into the original user to change, create or delete anything. I get an error message, in effect saying Login Failed. The computer is useable, I can login to the other users I set up OK,  but it is going to cause major problems until I can find away round this issue.

I thought of re-installing Vista but I get asked for the Password Again!

Whilst I accept it maybe me being a bit 'Thick', I am wondering if this is a way of using Vista that was not considered by Microsoft. I.E. Setting up users without having a password on the 'Admin' user.

Anyones Thoughts/Suggestions would be appreciated.

Best Wishes

Well I believe if you logon and go to control panel you can remove the password option for the administrator and also for all users. I just built a system with Vista and remember that when I first installed it I had to go to the user accounts and disable or remove the password. Find your user account and see if you can edit it. Should be an option there. If you change the password or remove the password option it wil ask for you to enter a password to do it. Just don't put a password in and hit the enter key. Also, do you have the guest account off or disabled? You might want to do that.

Many Thanks for your suggestions, but the problem still remains. When I startup I am presented with 6 users, The Original one which I cannot get into, the Guest one which I can get into but does not display properly and the 4 users I set up for seperate E-mail boxes. all of which seem to be OK.  If I go into any of the 4 users or the Guest one and go to the control panel and click on anything to change including 'Manage another user Account' I am asked for the Admin password. Hitting return does not do anything, it just asks for the password!

Anymore Suggestions?

Best Wishes

Ok, try again and when you try to access the administrator type in administrator as the user box and then hit enter. See what happens.
