Since you've asked - I cannot stand Works. I don't even know why Microsoft wastes the plastic to make the CD's. It has a lousy word processor (Unless you get Word with it - which is less lousy), the spreadsheet has a mind of its own, and the database is nothing more than an address book on steroids. And Works loads all kinds of things in the startup folder - calendar reminders, update reminders, etc. OK, so I'm being cruel. However, in this world of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., if you go to any college I can guarantee they will have one or more of those programs on their list of software for the students.
Now you have my two cents, which is about all I would ever pay for Works. I would shell out the $129 for the Office Student and Teacher edition. You can install it on up to three computers (remember that when you buy a Dell and check the box for Office - only one install and only on that PC) and it does everything that the Office Standard edition does, even aggravate you when you use it.
