MS Word crashes -- C++ "Runtime Error!"

Hi.  Just about every time I open a file in Word, it immediately shuts down, with the following error message from MS Visual C++ Runtime Library:

Runtime Error!

(program location, which is for WINWORD.EXE)

abnormal program termination

Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated, as I really need to use Word.  Thanks in advance.
