You could go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and look for Microsoft Word (or Microsoft Office, if you have it) and click the Change button. You'll be prompted to Detect/Repair.
If you can open Word, you can also accomplish this from the Help menu, Detect and Repair.
If that's the case, you'll have to exit all programs and reinstall from the original CD. Just insert the CD into the drive and follow the instructions. If you just see icons, double click the icon that has the word setup included.
Thanks, I will try that now. My friend said that maybe microsoft has some security thing so when you intstall a new hard drive, it doesn't like it when you copy your files to it. I will let you know in a minute. Boy, this morning is shot! lol
You;ll have to go <<
here >> and download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility. Look for Microsoft Office in the list when you run the utility. Then reinstall Office.
Nothing seems to work. I tried removing the program and I tried reinstalling the cd and it says both times that the patch cannot be opened and to check for authenticity. When I try to open word, it always tries to install it. Then it tells me to go to setup and restore. When I click ok, then finally word opens! I recently installed a new maxtor 200gig hard drive. I am using windows xp with all of the updates including package 2 so that should take care of the extra storage. I have a dell 4500 with 2.4 processor, 512 ram and everything is in good shape. This just happened recently. I notice the word icon lost the "W" I tried the system restore to two days ago and that didn't work either. Any more ideas? Thanks, Greg
Thank you so much! I ran that utility, removed ms word, then re installed it after I entered all of the authenticity information. It is up and running now. I owe you some beer!

Let me know if this doesn't work.
