Problems with creating calendars

When I create a new calendar using the calendar wizard, it creates it fine but there are no grid lines (ie boxes) around the days. I can go into "table" and hit 'show grid lines', but that just shows them on the screen and they don't print when I print the document. How can I get the gridlines to print?

You did not state which version of Word. But you are obviously ending up with a table. You can adjust the appearance of lines and the like in a table by selecting the entire table or any part, right clicking on Borders and Shading and adding or changing any of the lines.
