Problems with Duplicate PST files in Outlook 2003

I am having Problems with Duplicate PST files in Outlook 2003 when I try to move data from an old machine using Outlook 2000 to a new machine with Outlook 2003.

No matter what I do, I get duplicate personal folders and can not get rid of one of them. The duplicates are mirrors of the other and any activity in one affects the other. This slows down the system and email to the point where it is unsuable. There is only one PST file in the OUTLOOK directory. I have done this before with out problems so I have no idea why this is happening.

Any advice?

Have you tried right clicking on each and closing the duplicate? Only the duplicate will allow closing. Make sure you used File, Open OL Data File on the menu in Outlook to open the old copied pst file--not Import which can corrupt the pst file. Then drag what you want from the old file to the new and then close the old one. Also never overwrite the new pst file with the old one.
