Re-installing MS WorksSuite

Hello,

I had my older Dell worked on at a local computer shop. They removed everthing from the comp. and told me I would have to reinstall programs. I have reinstalled Microsoft Works Suite 2002 successfully, however, do not have product key# for that software, just the product key# for Windows XP. I called the shop and questioned this and the guy said he told me I would need that number. I disagreed and told him I would have made certain I had that number, as well as all other #'s for other programs before I allowed them to remove all the programs and his answer was "well you can buy a new key without buying the whole program for about $150.

Any suggestions or has this just been a lesson learned?

Thank you for any suggestions and/or help.

If you don't have the product key that came in the package for WorksSuite you will have to buy a new copy.  Dell, if you got it with the new PC, does not keep records of software product keys.

One option is to upgrade to an MS Office equivalent and download and install the free (but they take donations) Open Office suite of programs.  www.openoffice.org   You will be better off with Open Office as they are compatible to the MS Office versions and you will have compatible programs with most people.  The works programs are only compatible with works and are "lite" versions of the full MS Office programs.

Thanks for your reply. I just had a question I was wondering if you knew the answer to.... someone told me that my computer guy should have been able to reinstall it without the Product Key if he knew what he was doing. Any info on that? Thanks.

I think that your "someone" doesn't have a clue what he (or she) is talking about. The Product Key IS required.
