recording audio in powerpoint

I am having two problems with recording audio in PowerPowerpoint.

First, when I go to "Insert" then "Movies and Sounds" then "Record Sound," the quality is horrible. Is there anything I can do about this.

On the other hand, when I go to "Slide Show" then "Record Naration," it records at a lower volume than desired. To explain, when I play it back, I can hear it, but it is not very loud. I almost have to strain
