Scan to Type on Document

Inspiron 8200, Windows XP Home, Lexmark X85.  Trying to scan a document into my computer so that I can type on the document(filling in blanks) and then email the finished product.  When I scan to a file in My Documents, it is handled by Dell Image Expert Picture and of course when I open it I cannot type on it since it is handled as a picture.  If I right click on the file and try to change it to open with Microsoft Word, then Word page comes up with the blue border and task bar binking continuously with no document appearing.  How do I get it to scan as a document rather than a picture?  What is happening when the Word border and task bar go into the blinking-nothing happening mode? No problem using Word for letters etc..

The problem is fixed.  I discovered that to do this I needed to be able to select Text(OCR) on the Lexmark control program.  That function was not operating or grayed out.  Lexmark talked me thru some settings functions and Text(OCR) was available which allows the image scanned to be converted to a text file and sent to a text editor application(Microsoft Word)
