Lots of good info here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010565111033.aspx Is your microphone on & set up correctly? Note that when speech is turned on, weird things can happen in all your programs, so be sure to turn off the microphone/headset when you are not using it. The cheap microphone that comes with your computer usually is not adequate for speech recognition.

Thanks for your advice, though  think you've misunderstood my enquiry.

When I click on "speech" in "tools" in Word 2002, Nothing happens!

I have already started teaching windows xp my voice and this works well with my microphone!

So how can I get "speech" to work in Word 2002?  The component is installed in Microsoft Office XP.

If you search for speech in Word Help, there are instructions.

First thing is to show the language bar in your task bar, add the additional icons on it, then with Word open, click on the microphone icon on the language bar.
