Strange Excel Icon

I copied some data onto an Excel spreadsheet (Office 2003).  Now each of the cells on the spreadsheet where the data appears has not only the data, but a symbol that looks like a paper scroll, and has a light yellow color.

I can't seem to delete this icon/symbol.  Does anyone know why it is there and how it can be deleted?
