User Changes in Excel and Word
Does anyone know where Office puts changes you make to the toolbar or macros you've assigned to a button, or for example when you change the number of files to appear in the recently used file list. My hard drive crashed and the IT folks don't know where to look for these things so I can try and retrieve them.
tks

Some things, such as custom toolbars/buttons, are stored in Word templates. A lot of things are stored in the global Normal (Normal.dot) template, but there are others--both global and local. All of Microsoft's ready-made templates are located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates. Macros can be stored either in templates or documents.
The filenames displayed under the File menu are application specific. (I suspect there are probably registry values somewhere, but don't know where.) The recently used file list number is set by going to Tools > Options > on the General tab. A lot of other customization is available on the other tabs.
