First, this is the Microsoft Office section of the forum.  It has nothing to do with Operating Systems.

Second, you need to decide which you want and then research to see if your hardware is compatible with either Operating System.  And finally what exactly do you want to do or need to do will determine which operating system to choose (along with hardware compatibilities).

Windows 2000 was originally intended for workstations in an office enviroment, not really a multimedia consumer operating system (although many are using or attempting to use it that way).  Windows 2000 was the operating system upgrade from Windows NT.

Windows XP is more consumer, multi-media oriented and the current Microsoft Windows Operating System.  However, Windows XP has specific hardware requirements and many older PC's do not meet those requirements.  Microsoft has a Windows XP "Upgrade Advisor" that you can download and run, it will scan your hardware and software and tell you if XP can be installed and which (if any) hardware is not compatible and will need to be replaced.  Same way with software, as some older software is not XP compatible.

Once you decide which OS you want, suggest you post questions on that specific section of the forum.
