Word 2000 problem, answer please?
Noobie and i need help. my Word 2000 (Sr 1)and its documents stored in "my documents" open and then show a message saying," word has encountered a problem and needs to close, sorry blah blah". i clicked the info icon and it states> Appname-winword.exe Appver 9.0.0.3822 Modname oleaut32.dll 2nd line
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0006b24.
i recently upgraded to Explorer 7. just presumed the new version would be better.
normally i use Netscape. can anyone direct me to a fix for the stored documents and the Word app?unable to determine what caused the problem:since i have limited knowledge of softwear repair.

You might also try a Repair Install of Microsoft Word or the entire Microsoft Office Suite.
You will need the CD for that and possibly the CD Product Key to do this

With Word closed, search for normal.dot and delete all copies. Open Word. If it works, you're all set. Word will re-create the file. If you're using Windows XP, your normal.dot might be a hidden file. If so, set your Folder Options to allow you to view hidden files and folders. (With ME or 98SE, this won't be necessary.)

i have unstalled IE7, tried Repair, but it indicates i need a disc. i have cked my discs that came with the computer new and see none listed as Word. i think i still have all the discs and info. will it be on another disc? also, how do i get to the Global Template to ck and see if Normal is listed? i am a little intimidated by all this, but will continue. My Documents has many important files. any way to copy to CD or floppy? only word documents present problems. pics and other files are ok in Documents.

To find the global template (that's the normal.dot file), click on Start| Search |For Files or Folders. When the search window appears, type in "normal.dot" (without the " "). Select and delete all instances found. If your OS is Windows XP, you will need to go to tools |folder options| view in Windows explorer and select show hidden files and folders before you do your search.
If you have a floppy drive or a CD-RW drive, you can copy data files to save or have as a backup. If to floppy, select the files you wish to copy, then click on copy file and select your floppy as the target drive. If you want to save to a cd, use the software that came with your cd/rw drive to copy the files to the cd.

If you do, and you need them again, you would be out of luck .. also the case or sleeve
usually has the needed installation code for the software.
