Make sure your system is set to display hidden files and folders. Search for normal.dot. Right-click and delete every occurrence found. When you restart Word it will generate a new normal template and your problem should be resolved.

There will be at least one normal.dot file if Word is installed. It will be located at C:\Documents and Settings\ Your account\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. The Application Data folder is a hidden folder, so you will not be able to locate normal.dot unless you have your system set to show hidden files and folders. Do this by opening Windows Explorer and going to Tools|Folder Options|View tab and checking "Show hidden files and folders."

Open Word and under the Help menu select "Detect and repair." See if that corrects the problem. If not, reinstall Office.

Allan
Word worked when I did this. Suggestions to remove add-ins?
Thanks

You may want to disable Norton Office scan if you're using Norton Antivirus. It's under the Options in Norton, Miscellaneous.
I would also search for the nav??.dot and rename them. You may have to look in hidden folders when doing the search.
Have you scanned for spyware lately? If not I'd recommend that, also.
Let me know how you make out.
