word problems

Hi, Why is it when I scan a document from my printer to word it does not display correctly and or has parts of text missing? The only way I can scan and save a doc to read correctly is to save as a jpg. I have tried all settings in printer and cannot seem to find the fix. thank You

Are you using "OCR" (Optical Character Recognition) software?  It sounds like you are and many of the OCR programs - especially the ones that come with scanners is not very good.  OCR is probably dropping some data - at least what it sound like.

You need the OCR conversion if you want to modify the data and save it as a word doc file.  If you bring it in as a graphic file you can save it but you can't modify it.

firebird, Thanks for your reply. Yes I am using ocr settings on the scanner it is a low end lexmark X 5150.I notice when scanning the item abby fine reader pops up with a progress bar, goes to 100% then word opens with the scanned page with half of the data missing.Could abby fine reader be the cause if it is a old version or would this have nothing to do with it? The version is 5. Thanks again for your input.

It probably is the OCR program.  You can try reloading it and see what happens.  You may have to buy a better OCR program if you really need that function.  You get what you pay for in many cases with software and especially the "lite" or "limited" free versions that come with the low end peripherals such as Lexmark.
