Word - readability statistics

I'm unable to display the Readability Statistics in Word.

I used to get them but for some reason they stopped being displayed. I've carried out the Tools/options/Grammar with Spelling/Show Readability Statistics sequence but it still doesn't work. Any advice would be welcome.

I have XP Home Edition - SP2 ; MS Office Professional V10 ; Word 2002 - SP3 & Dell 8200.

dms997,

After you go through the Spelling and Grammar steps are you checking the Spelling and Grammar icon on the standard toolbar?

Denny - Thanks for your reply.

I take it the 'Spelling & Grammar' icon is the (ABC + Tick) icon. If so, I can see no way of 'checking' it. If I left click on it, the 'Spelling & Grammar' function is invoked, as you would expect. I have re-arranged the icons so that the commonly used ones are on the right-hand side of the screen. Could it be that I'm missing something?

Regards

No, it's not that icon.  Click on Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar.  Make sure you have Grammar check turned on, then the Readability stats box checked.

That's the icons to click. When I click it the readability statistics appear immediately. There may be something corrupted in Word. To correct it, go to Detect and Repair in the drop down menu under Help.

Rick - Partial success. By changing the combination of the ticks in the Options/S &G/Grammar section some of my Word documents now display Readability Statistics, but not all. I can't fathom what's going on.

Denny - I looked up 'Detect & Repair' in MS Word Help and the effects are rather drastic. I don't want to redo all my customisation. I'll live with the problem.

Thanks to you both

If I may make a suggestion. Try opening the support.dot template and fixing the data key in the registry. You can download a copy of support.dot < here >. Look for the link for the support.zip file.

Allan - I did the download and read about what was to be done but decided to live with the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion.
