TPM missing in Dell poweredge R 730 xd
I have inherited a few R 730XD's and when i was trying to implement bitlocker on one of the VM's ( server 2016), i had the message no TPM found. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version 2.12 and checked in bios and No TPM was found. If the TPM's did not ship in with the servers or were removed, can i purchase them from Dell. Also i have the servers in production. If i plugged in the TPM module, will it be available to the underlying OS running on it . I have Esxi 6.5 installed on it and have a few windows 2016 and linux servers running on it. Thanks

You would only have issues if you previously had a TPM that was enabled, and you didn't retain the keys held in the TPM Security Feature. If there wasn't a TPM installed, or it wasn't previously enabled then there wouldn't be an issue. If you do add one, this document will help you to enable it in the OS.

rmit,
If it was previously installed and is now showing missing it is likely it was removed, as it is cryptographically bound to that specific system board. Any attempt to remove an installed TPM breaks that cryptographic binding, and it cannot be re-installed or installed on another system. You can install a new TPM on the R730xd, it is part number K98XH. You can see about installing it on page 158-159 in the manual found here.
Let me know if this helps.

Thank you for the reply. Will reinstalling a new TPM module have any effect (break) the current operating system installed on the server.
