When users with restricted privilege connect domain
Hi, all,
I have one minor problem here.
I installed one AutoStart on one 2003 Server with administrator privilege. When login as one user with restrict privilege and run the AutoStart Console, after the domain is connected, I saw some error on the "Event Log" panel, as shown in the following picture:
I found this is because the user doesn't have the privilege of writing to the AutoStart installation directory "C:\Program Files\EMC\AutoStart\Console53\config".
Does the console only be ran by users with administrator privilege? I found in the installation document that the installation should be done with administrator privilege. But I didn't find the related error description on the login.
I want to make sure can we login console with non-administrator privilege? Thanks for any information.

Hi,
First of all, you must log in in the administrators authority.
And, display the Licensing/Security tab of the AutoStart console.
Set the account that you use.
At that time, set Access Right to administrator.

Fine, I'll restrict the login as one user with administrator privilege. Thanks for your information.

In theory this should work with any user account that has the appropriate permissions to access the EMC AutoStart Domain. Once the user account is logged into the server, they should be able to launch the EMC AutoStart Console if their user account is part of the "Valid User List" with either User, Operator, or Administrator privelages.
If LDAP authentication is also enabled, then the user will also need to provide their LDAP authentication when launching the EMC AutoStart Console. Even though LDAP authentication is enabled, they are still required to be part of the "Valid User List".
I would suggest opening an EMC Service Request case to further investigate this topic.

Hi, ecervant,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I've checked, after I let this user have the privilege of "write" to the directory "C:\Program Files\EMC\AutoStart\Console53\config", this problem wouldn't happen. I'm not sure if there is any other issue that I didn't find out.
I've added this user as an administrator in the"Valid User List" on the server where AutoStart Agent is running, or I couldn't connect to the console successfully.
The event should be "Installed sql200510.jar" and the other "Installed *.jar", since the user has no privilege to write to the directory, so it shows error.
