ESRS IP Client - Invalid SMTP Server

I downloaded the newest version and am trying to install on 2k8r2 x64.  The IP for the smtp server is correct, and works correctly when placed into the email notification area of Unisphere.  I can also perform pings / dns lookups also.

When the error occurs, it pops up immediately, like I have a syntax problem instead of the install program actually going out and validating the smtp server is incorrect.

Anyone else encountering this?
