2nd Hard Drive installation question

Hi

I have dell 8300. I want to install internal Zip drive and 2nd hard drive in my system.

I just read on dell website that dell System only support 4 IDE devices.

Is there any way I could install both drive together?

If it is possible, what kind of hard drive should I have to buy?

Please help me!

Thank you.

Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz Hyper

1024MB

1floppy drive

1CD rom and 1DVD writer.

Just about any EIDE hard drive should work.   I prefere Maxtor and Western Digital.

Also you have another option to install a Serial ATA disk drive also on your 8300.   You have 2 SATA ports.

Another option is to use an USB ZIP and install it externally.    If your debating on an external hard drive vs a ZIP I would move the zip out board since the external hard drive would be slower than internal.

If you decide to go with a SATA make sure you get the Serial ATA cable with the drive, if you buy a bare drive it is not included.  Attached is a link to a mother board layout.

Thank you for all the help.

I just have one more question.

Can I install two different hard drive (IDE and SATA) on 8300?

If I could, Do I have to change Bios Setting?

Once again, Thank you.

The default settings in the BIOS for the IDE drives and the SATA drives is AUTO.  This means the BIOS should automatically detect the change in the drives attached to the motherboard.
