8600 Won't Read DVD-R
I have had my Inspiron 8600 for about 1 year with no problems until now when the CD/DVD combo drive will not read DVD-R any longer when it previously did not have a problem. It sometimes will read the DVD-R must most of the time now it won't. It will read CD-R and prerecorded DVD's. I saw that there is a firmware upgrade for this drive (Samsung) but I can't update because it is a DOS program that requires a bootable floppy. I tried to make a bootable CD-R but could not get it to work. Any help?

you might want to try these steps.
Click the Start button, click Run.
In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK.
Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM.
Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Control.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Class.
Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters.
Click Edit on the menu bar.
Click Delete, and then click OK.
On the right-hand side of the window, click LowerFilters.
Click Edit on the menu bar.
Click Delete, and then click OK.
Click File, and then click Exit.
Restart the computer normally.
