a disk error occurred...

I haven't had a problem with my Latitude C640 until today.  When I turn on my laptop, I get the following message

a disk error occurred
press ctrl+alt+del to restart

So I did exactly that.. but I get the same message.

The next thing I did was run a diagnostics scan.  This is what I found...

---Start DST Short Test Failed--
Test Results:  Fail
Error Code   : 1000-0146
Msg:  Unit 0:DST Log contains previous error(s)

Does anyone have a suggestion on fixing this problem.

Thanks :O)

I second that -- when harddrives fail, we replace them -- if you are still under warrenty we can replace your harddrive -- feel free to call us. 1-800-822-8965.

I have  the same problem and know my hard drive needs to be replaced.  But I cannot find any official looking reference to this problem and error code that I can show my help desk people to convince them to order a new hard drive instead of reformatting this one.  Will the reformat take at all or will it fail?
