A "low disk space" error message

Though I have deleted lots of files after getting the "low disk space" error message, it still pops up....it says I have less than 100 mb of memory left, though I have deleted (and emptied recycle bin) far more than this...

Am running XP professional on an Inspiron 5100

akharris,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

Is your virus software up to date? I ask, because it is possible that you have a virus.

Corey,

I think it is, but it may not be...I am a total dummy on this stuff...is there any freeware you recommend?

Thanks,

Aaron

Turn OFF system restore. It can and will use a very large part of the HDD. After you turn it off it will delete all the saved restore points and then you can turn it back on if you like. You can also turn off the hibernate featrue and that will free up HDD space.

Don't be a cheapskate!  Get good antivirus software and use it.  It is the best software you can buy for your computer, the best money you can spend.  Norton AV was just advertised this weekend for $10 after rebates.  Thats 80% off the price.
