Add hardrive...

I have xps gen4 with 2 drives.  I need to add a 3rd.  Is there anything special I have to other than plug drive in and go?

I assume you wil add another SATA drive.

Just install the drive.   Hook up the SATA cable to  a free SATA port.   I beleive you gen 4 has 4 SATA ports.   Note down the port #.

On boot up press F2 to go into setup.    No sure how your BIOS is setup but if your in SATA RAID mode *YES.   You do not have to do anything the drive should be enable.   If NOT you may have to enable the SATA port.   (I have a Gen2)

After boot up right click my computer and select manage.   Select Disk Manager.   In the Disk manager you should find a new disk.   Create the partition and format it.   It now ready to use.

Thanks TomXPS, I want add either the Raptor 150 gig or maybe a 500 gig 7200.  I will follow your instructions.  I was not sure because I also have dvd and cd along with the 2 drives.

Usually the CD devices use the IDE channel that your system has.  Thats supports 2 devices.   Some CD can be SATA devices.   May not hurt to just look in side and see if you have the 2 SATA ports open as I think you should.
